John Ross presents El Monstruo: Dread and Redemption in Mexico City

Monday Apr 19, 7PM @ Red Emma's

El Monstruo is rebel journalist, John Ross' latest work.  Looking out from the window of the aging Hotel Isabel in Mexico City, where he has lived for about a quarter century, John Ross weaves together the beautiful stories that comprise the history of this bustling city.  Revelling in the seedy, the hidden, and the mysterious, John Ross watches as these beloved parts of this chaotic and monstrous city are being slowly neutralized, devoured, and transformed by the ceaseless forces of neoliberal globalization.  El Monstruo is a collection of stories written from below in defense of history and place.  Join us with author John Ross as he discusses his work for what will surely be an enthralling evening!

John Ross is a poet, freelance journalist, and activist currently residing in Mexico City. His articles have appeared in the San Francisco Bay Guardian, The Nation, CounterPunch, Texas Observer, The Progressive, and La Jornada. His book Rebellion from the Roots won the American Book Award and his somewhat autobiographical memoir Murdered by Capitalism won the Upton Sinclair Award and was a San Francisco Chronicle Book of the Year.
