Friday Dec 5, 7PM @ Red Emma's : Rhetoric for Radicals:A Handbook for Twenty-First Century Activists

We need hammers, ideas, horizontal levelers, maybe some wood glue, spray paint, pencils and pens, sometimes a tape measurer and also some powerful rhetoric and communication in our toolbox for social change. A better more just and sustainable world can be constructed with the many talents and tools we left radicals behold, but sometimes we lack on conveying and communicating the possibilities we envision

Rhetoric for Radicals: A Handbook for Twenty-First Century Activists By Jason Del Gandio  provides practical guidelines for public speaking, writing, conversation, persuasion, political correctness, propaganda analysis, street theatrics and new languages.

Join the Author Jason Del Gandio at Red Emma's for a presentation and discussion of the book!

Sunday Dec 7, 4PM @ 2640 : MEETING RESISTANCE: a film by steve connors & molly bingham

DCOI, a local anti-war organization, is hosting the first Baltimore screening of this acclaimed, controversial, and highly informative film about the Iraqi insurgency.  "A remarkable piece of war reporting" according to the Washington Post, Meeting Resistance brings us face to face with members of the insurgency.

Directed by Steve Connors and Molly Bingham, this daring, eye-opening film provides unique insight into the personal narratives of people involved in the resistance, exploding myth after myth about the war in Iraq and the Iraqis who participate. Through its unprecedented access to these clandestine groups, MEETING RESISTANCE focuses the spotlight on the "other side", clarifying why the violence in Iraq continues to this day and providing a deeper understanding of both the toll of occupation and the human condition of resistance. Speaker Dr. Sami AlBanna, who was born and raised in Iraq, will help give a historic understanding of the situation in Iraq, in light of both the history of colonialism and the more recent history of U.S.-backed economic and military funding and political intervention in the region.

Saturday Dec 13, 7:30PM @ 2640 : The Red & Black Ball!

Mark your calendars, my fine friends and fellow mischief-makers: the Red and Black Ball is one holiday party you absolutely won't want to miss.  Join the Red Emma's collective as we celebrate the traditional anarchist gift-giving season with an all-out, over-the-top evening of revelry in your steampunk-era red and black finest!  Think Victorian-era dances, parlour games, phrenology, bands of travellers, and, of course, spirits to warm your body and soul.  Think renaissance festival dress gone anarchist.  Think Alan Moore ("V for Vendetta," League of Extraordinary Gentlemen").  Live and DJ'd music (from a gramophone!) throughout the evening, as well as a seance and other performances led by our very own Master of Ceremonies, Ryan Coffman, with the help of a variety of Baltimore favorites including Ric Royer!

Still wondering what we're talking about?  The Red and Black Ball is a neo-Victorian-themed masquerade ball!  Pull out that fancy dress you picked up at a thrift store; borrow your brother's tuxedo!  Make a mask (think Venetian carnival) or just come on out and decorate one of the free masks available at the event.  Here's a chance to celebrate the gift-giving season with an evening that's more memorable than putting on a horrible, holiday sweater and watching "Miracle on 34th Street" for the ten-thousandth time. On this December night, there will be mystery and allure - let's paint the night red and black!

It all takes place at 2640 Saint Paul Street, December 13, starting at 7:30PM.  Tickets are $10-$15 sliding scale, and tickets include food and a free drink.  Masks provided for those who need them.  Proper attire is NOT required, but isn't it more fun to cobble a costume together?  Email info@redemmas.org for more info ...
