About : fair trade

At Red Emma's, you can count on us to provide you with the best selection of fair-trade and organic coffees and teas -- even our espresso! We use organic dairy, and organic ingredients in most of our food products.
We feel strongly about the rights and freedoms of workers worldwide - that's one of the reasons we support the fair-trade idea. Our fellow workers at Two Degrees Coffeeshop in Madison, WI have a great description of what it means to buy fair-trade:
"In contrast to free trade, fair-trade is a system in which social justice is an integral part of the relationship between producers and consumers."
We believe that workers everywhere have the right to receive a fair wage for their labor!!
Our coffee, roasted locally by our good friends at The Daily Roast, is certified by Transfair.
The Transfair Fair Trade Certified label guarantees:
- A fair price
- The Fair Trade Certified label guarantees that farmers and workers received a fair price for their product. The Fair Trade price means that farmers can feed their families and that their children can go to school instead of working in the fields.
- Quality products
- By receiving a fair price, Fair Trade producers can avoid cost-cutting practices that sacrifice quality. The Fair Trade producers' traditional artisanal farming methods result in exceptional products.
- Care for the environment
- Our Fair-Trade Certified coffee is not only shade- grown, it is certified organic, and so is our dairy. This means that the products you buy maintain biodiversity, provide shelter for migratory birds and help reduce global warming.
Our goal is to demonstrate that it is possible to build a socially-responsible, non-exploitative workplace, not only locally, but worldwide!
